I've been a psychotherapist for 35 years since graduating from UC
Berkeley
in 1971 with a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Social Work . My
practice
has included individuals, couples, families and groups from different
populations
who were seen in a variety of settings (family service agencies,
country
mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric units, hospital settings,
an
HMO, as well as in my private psychotherapy practice). In addition, I
have
developed intern training programs, supervised M.S.W. interns, and have
been
a consultant to teachers and nurses in conflict resolutions.
As a strong advocate of postgraduate continuing education, I helped
found the Berkeley Psychotherapy Institute in 1971, serving as
Education Director
for one year. My advanced training is in brief and long term
psychotherapy, martial and family therapy, PTSD, and working with
blocks to creativity.
Since taking an early retirement eight years ago, I've devoted most
of
my time to expanding my private practice and pursing my interest in
theatre.
Over the last fourteen years, my love of theatre has progressed from
acting
to directing, and teaching acting students the skills and techniques of
acting
on stage. Issues of shyness, performance anxiety, fears of being
assertive/aggressive,
fears of failure and/or success, and various blocks to creativity are
all
aspects of life, whether on stage or off. My clinical experience
enables
me to psychologically understand these fears, unearth the base of them,
and
develop tools for individuals to move beyond them.
