Marilyn Stettler,
MFT, has been a licensed Marriage and Family therapist since 1979 with
a practice in San Francisco and Castro Valley, four years ago adding
the Davis practice. Trained in design at the University of Michigan,
she worked in that field until she attended California State University
at Hayward and earned her Masters in Clinical Counseling.
After licensing she studied
Ericksonian Hypnosis and was certified to
practice hypnosis under her license. Recently she completed a three
year postgraduate training program earning a certificate from the
Masterson Institute on psychoanalytic psychotherapy of the disorders of
the self.
While maintaining a general practice
working with adults , she has
special clinical interest in helping individuals change personality
patterns, that while originally developed for protection and survival,
now interfere with self-esteem and self-expression. With couples she
arrives at a diagnostic understanding of each individual to help them
change the ways they use their differences and personality styles in
self-protective maneuvers that prevent the collaborative and intimate
relationships they would like.

Marilyn was one of the founding members of the California
Coalition for Ethical Mental
Health
Care serving on their board of
directors for six years.
