Alexis Rabourn, MFT, has been licensed and in private practice since 1980. She received her Master’s Degree from San Francisco State University in 1979, and attended and completed a four-year psychoanalytic training program at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies (affiliated with the International Psychoanalytic Association), graduating from the psychoanalytic psychotherapy track last year. She is currently finishing the case requirements to be a psychoanalyst.

While she enjoys working with a variety of problems including relationship issues, depression, anxiety, anger, eating disorders, abuse, and work issues, she particularly enjoys working with people who are interested in change through understanding their thoughts, feelings and behavior, including the unconscious factors that frequently block progress. The alliance between the client and therapist is particularly important in creating the atmosphere necessary for change to occur, and she believes that she provides the consistent, safe and helpful environment combined with a deeper understanding of oneself that leads to the greatest change.

While her primary mode of working is psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, she is also informed by interpersonal, family, cognitive-behavioral and group psychotherapies, and utilizes those methods which seem most appropriate for a particular person’s problem, as each person is unique in their needs. She treats both the milder forms as well as more persistent problems or disorders which may be the result of painful conflicts, traumas or rigid patterns that interfere and cause pain in an otherwise healthy person’s life.
