KARA: Grief Support for Children and Adults

Non-professional volunteers who provide peer counseling to bereaved
residents
of the Peninsula:
- Individual and family counseling in the home, hospital, or other
setting convenient for the client
- Grief support group, which meets on 1st and 3rd
Wednesday of each month
- Children and teen's program using activities that are age-related
- Crisis intervention for groups or organizations affected by
sudden
death
Unable to see those diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizo-affective
disorder, bipolar illness (unless stabilized on medication for 3
years), active substance abuse, active suicidal behavior.
San Mateo:

- Grief education class on 1st Tuesday of each month,
6:15
- 7:30 PM
- Grief Self Help Healing Group, 8 week group with practical
information and the opportunity to heal, for anyone whose loved one has
died at any time
(even years ago.) No new participants after the first session. Advance
registration
required and space is limited. Mondays, 6:15- 7:45 PM.
- For Men, By Men, a grief support for men, advance registration
required, thereafter drop-in, Wednesdays, twice a month, 6:14 - 7:30 PM.
- Violent and Traumatic Loss Group, an 8 week group for those
grieving
a death due to an accident, disaster, suicide or homicide. Advance
registration required. 6:15 - 7: 45 PM., Thursday.
- Widows and Widowers Grief Support Self Help Group, bridges the
acute
adjustment time immediately after a death and the time when grievers
re-engaged
in social connection Initial advance registration required, thereafter
drop-in. Every other Tuesday, 3:30 - 5 PM
- Support for Spanish-Speaking Bereaved: Llamenos al (650) 685-

The Centre for Living with Dying

The Centre for Living with Dying provides emotional support to
individuals and families facing life threatening illness or the trauma
of having a loved
one die. The Center also provides a broad-based educational program to
the
community on the subjects of grief and loss and how it impacts the
world
around us.
- One-to-one emotional support
- Peer support groups
- Staff consultations for special trauma situations
- Bereaved victims of violent crime
- Crisis intervention when sudden death occurs in our community
- After disaster support
- Circle of Care for those affected by AIDS
- Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) for emergency workers.

organizations in your area to ask if they provide referrals.
