Marilyn Girard graduated from John F. Kennedy University in 1983 and holds a Master's Degree in clinical Psychology. She was licensed in 1984 in California and has been in private practice since then. She has had extensive post-graduate training in self-psychology therapy, control mastery therapy, cognitive therapy, as well as training in addiction treatment, including eating disorders, alcohol/substance abuse, and co-dependence. She works with individuals and couples.

Her therapeutic work is action-oriented and focused to enable clients to deal more effectively with specific problems. She assists and encourages clients in the development and utilization of their own strengths and skills while guiding them towards workable solutions. She brings warmth, strength, and a sensitive understanding to her work, which facilitates the process of change. She is familiar with the particular concerns and issues of ethnic and sexual minorities.
